ngredients (Makes about 8 flatbreads)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup fine semolina (optional but recommended)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dry yeast (optional for softer texture)
- 1 cup warm water (adjust as needed)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for shaping)
- 1/4 cup melted butter (for layering)
- Extra flour for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, semolina, salt, sugar, and yeast (if using).
- Gradually add warm water while kneading until you get a smooth, elastic dough.
- Knead for about 10 minutes, then cover with a cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide and Shape
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- Coat each ball lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
- Flatten and Fold
- Take one ball and flatten it with your hands or a rolling pin on a greased surface.
- Brush the surface with melted butter and a little oil.
- Fold it into a square (or circle, if making paratha) by folding the edges inward.
- Cook the Flatbreads
- Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat.
- Place one flattened dough piece and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, flipping until golden brown.
- Press gently with a spatula to help it puff up and develop layers.
- Serve Warm
- Serve with honey, cheese, or your favorite dipping sauce.
